Questions people ask

Is this actually free?

Yes. The full result is on screen, free, with nothing blurred or held back. We ask for an email address only if you want the file to download or forward - and no newsletter unless you tick the box.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no credit card and no trial to start. Open the page, put something in, get the result.

What happens to my document?

We delete uploads after 30 days, and we don't train anything on your documents. If you'd rather we kept nothing at all, paste the text instead of uploading the file - pasted text is processed and discarded, never stored.

How is the comprehension score calculated?

Readability formulas tell you how many years of education a text assumes; we model your audience's reading level against that and report the overlap as a range. Every assumption, including the published sources, is written out in the 'how we work this out' panel under the result. Nothing is hidden, because you'll want to defend this number to someone.

Does it work on Bulgarian documents?

Yes, and it uses a different metric to do it. Flesch-Kincaid is calibrated on English and means very little on Bulgarian, so Bulgarian text is scored with LIX, which is language-agnostic by design. We also don't report a passive-voice count for Bulgarian, because we can't measure it accurately yet and a wrong number is worse than a missing one.

What file types can I upload?

PDF, DOCX and TXT, or just paste the text. If a PDF is a scan with no text layer, we'll tell you - we don't run OCR, so paste the text instead.
